Adam Young creates weather app for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Faversham
00:01, 06 July 2015
A disabled man has released a free app for smartphones and computers which will give weather forecasts for the borough.
Adam Young has been busy testing the product and made it available this week.
The Swale Weather app will allow users to check forecasts in Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Faversham up to five days in advance.
It will also show what other users have been searching for previously and will update every day at 6am, noon and 6pm.
It will be released in the Windows App Store for Windows phones and computers while a version has been available on the Amazon Kindle device since January.
A paid-for version, without adverts, may be released in the future at a price of around £1.49, depending on the success of the free version.
Mr Young is the web developer for Sheppey FM and also hosts the radio station’s website.
The 29-year-old said computers have helped him to recover following a collision which left him with serious head injuries.
He was hit by a car in Knightsfield Road, Sittingbourne, in 2000, and as a result he had to have a blood clot removed from his brain.
He said: “I do still suffer with my head because after they removed the blood clot it’s taken my brain a long time to recover.
“I still get confused and it does take a bit longer to process information. I’ve had so much feedback about the Swale weather application and everyone’s really happy about it, and I hope it gets public support.”
Mr Young said he wanted to do something for the community with his weather app and hopes to go on to create more apps in the future.
He was helped in the project by his friend Barry Webb.
