A woman lost control of her car after yobs in a multi-storey car park pelted it with onions.

Police were called to Sittingbourne town centre on Sunday evening following reports people were launching vegetables at passing vehicles, hitting at least two and causing damage to a windscreen.

One victim was Hayley Marsh, who was driving down St Michael's Road at around 7.30pm.

She was passing the car park, opposite Kwik Fit, when onions were lobbed at her car, causing her to lose control and smash into the kerb.

She’s now warning others to be vigilant and fears the antics could cause a serious, or even fatal, crash.

The 38-year-old housewife said: “I was just driving home from a friend’s when I heard a deafening bang and something had smashed onto my front windscreen.
“It scared the life out of me and made me smash up the kerb.

“I didn’t see anyone and it took me by total surprise. I have had to have my car checked, but luckily there was no serious damage.

“It’s so dangerous and if I had been going any faster I would have lost control of the car completely.

“I was totally taken aback by the shock of it all and how loud it was. I don’t know how my window didn’t go through and came out of it with no serious damage.

“At first I thought it was a rock or a load of apples, but whoever is doing it is going to cause a bad accident.”

A police spokesman said no suspects were found but officers had discovered onions on the ground when they searched the area.

They added: “At least two vehicles are said to have been struck, with one driver reporting damage to a windscreen.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 01795 419119 quoting 46/83129/21.
