00:00, 05 August 2005
DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a report of a serious sexual assault on a Kent woman.
The incident occurred at around 1.45am on Saturday at an address in the Park Road area of Sittingbourne.
Police have launched a full investigation which involves officers conducting house-to-house enquiries and gathering forensic evidence. Officers were also deployed to preserve the scene of the crime.
Det Insp Sarah Pain, who is leading the investigation, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area between midnight and 3am.
"The road is normally busy and I am certain that there may be a number of potential witnesses who have yet to come forward."
The attacker is described as being a white male in his mid-20s, around 5ft 6ins tall with short dark hair. He wore a plain black T-shirt.
Det Insp Pain stressed: “I would like to reassure people that incidents of this nature in Swale are rare."
Anyone with information is asked to telephone Swale Police on 01795 584040 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
