Young man threatens to leap from bridge
00:00, 01 September 2006
A BUSY dual carriageway had to be closed after a young man threatened to jump from a bridge.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the Quinton bridge on the A249 at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, after drivers reported their concerns for the man.
He had climbed over the security barrier and was clinging to the top railing looking at the road below.
At one point two police officers each held one of his arms as he tucked his feet up.
They spoke to him at some length and he eventually came down from the bridge. He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital at Gillingham.
The drama lasted well over an hour. Both sides of the dual carriageway were closed during the incident.
