Sittingbourne stand to benefit if their former striker Harry Smith signs for Aberdeen.

Smith went on trial with the Scottish Premiership club last week, scoring in a friendly, and the Dons will continue to monitor the 20-year-old.

Brickies agreed a 15% sell-on clause when they sold the 6ft 7in forward to Folkestone last December.

Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis pushed for his board to put Smith on contract, convinced the club could make money on him.

Smith asked to leave weeks later, making the move to Folkestone, where he has scored 12 goals in 15 games for the Ryman League, Division 1 South champions.

Davis said: “I saw a lot in him. He offered something different.

“He could be better in the air for his height but he’s a great target and has good feet as well.

“He’d be the first to admit he’s not a natural scorer but his record speaks for itself this season.

“For a year I’d been trying to get him on contract, knowing he would get interest.

“It’s turned out to be a good move because we got money when he went to Folkestone and with the sell-on clause, there could be more.”

Sittingbourne play their penultimate league game of the season at Chatham on Saturday (3pm). There’s free entry as Chats look to attract a big crowd in their final home match.
