Sittingbourne know what it’s like to top the league for the first time in 20 years - and it’s given them a taste for more.

Brickies briefly led Bostik South after winning 1-0 at Herne Bay on Tuesday last week.

They go to bottom side Shoreham on Saturday with a big chance to keep the pressure on leaders Lewes, who are three points clear.

Eleven games into the season, in-form Brickies have to be taken seriously.

Boss Nick Davis said: “It was nice to be the first manager in 20 years to take Sittingbourne to the top.

“We’ve had a couple of opportunities so to get that monkey off our back was fantastic.

“We’re in October now and it gets to a stage when you say, ‘hang on a minute, when is it not early days?’

“We’re in a good place. We just have to keep chipping away and keep winning and if we do have a lapse, we’ll hopefully have a cushion to keep us amongst it.”

Shoreham had only four points before facing Ashford last night (Tuesday) but Davis has warned against complacency.

He said: “They beat Greenwich at home, who are one of the strongest sides in the league, so it shows we can’t take anything for granted.

“But we’re in a good place at the moment, winning becomes a habit and we’re in that habit.

“We’ve just got something about us this year - I don’t know what it is.

“I keep telling the players we need to show the level of consistency that’s not been at the club for a few years and we’re doing that.

“We have to make sure we’re professional and keep up the workrate that’s got us where we are.

“There’s no superstars in the side, it’s a case of everyone buying into what we do.”
