Shane Byrne claimed his second British Superbike Championship double of the season at Snetterton on Sunday.

The Sittingbourne rider won the opening race from Josh Brookes by 4.133sec, with James Ellison third.

Brookes had been closing the gap until a mistake on the final lap confirmed Byrne’s victory.
Byrne and Brookes were involved in a thrilling battle for the lead in race two.

The pair exchanged positions until Brookes crashed out on lap 13, with Byrne going on to finish 2.164 ahead of Ellison.

Byrne’s double sees the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider hold a 145-100 lead over Ellison in the championship standings.

Byrne said: “I enjoyed that (second) race, especially as we did the double.

“I got a good start and then got straight down to it. thought I needed to push on hard and then if anyone is going to pass, they need to work hard for it.”

Round four is at Knockhill in Scotland on June 27-29.
