Women’s and girls’ hockey in Swale has been given a boost by a new partnership between rival clubs.
Sittingbourne have joined forces with Faversham Ladies with the aim of rejuvenating the female game.
The link-up will see Faversham switch home games to Bourne’s base at Borden Grammar School.
Sittingbourne have some of the best sporting facilities in the borough, including four changing rooms and a clubhouse above, providing an excellent vantage point to watch matches.
Bourne also recently upgraded their recording equipment, while the artificial pitch was relaid in 2017.
“As a club, community is key to our growth strategy,” said Sittingbourne chairman Ed Carter.
“Attracting new players from across that community, competing with other sports and attracting players to winter sports is always a challenge.
“By working with Faversham, we hope to build on community links in the Swale area, which makes our facilities open to as many sporting communities as possible.
“This will also help Faversham grow their club and make our top-class facilities available to all.
“We look forward to working with Faversham in the coming seasons.”
Faversham Ladies were formed more than 40 years ago, originally playing under the name Davington Priory.
By joining forces with Sittingbourne, the club see a chance to build on their proud history.
Faversham chairman Clare Smithson said: “The opportunity to join forces with an established club, who have excellent facilities and who work closely with the local community, presented a great opportunity to continue their legacy for generations to come.”
