Kent's McCague joins Gore Court
00:00, 15 February 2002
ENGLAND and Kent fast bowler Martin McCague will be playing for Sittingbourne side Gore Court this season. McCague, this year's county beneficiary, joins former Kent skipper Steve Marsh at The Grove.
Marsh, who lives in Rodmersham, near Sittingbourne is in his third season with the club. Court are hoping for a return to Division 1 of the Kent League and hope that McCagueÕs signing will mean that the club can hang on to their talented youngsters and attract new players to the club.
Last season Court became the first non-professional club in the country to play their league cricket in coloured clothing and, subject to league approval, they hope to repeat it this season.
Negotiations are underway with a club in Queensland to bring in an overseas player to bolster the batting and hopes are high for the first game away to Chislehurst on May 4.
Indoor nets begin at Fulston Manor School on Tuesday, March 5, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and outdoor nets start at The Grove on April 23 (6pm).
Anyone wishing to join the club should contact Nigel Sharp on 01795 427079 (evenings) or 07932 723733 (mobile) or e-mail the club on Sharpy@gorecourt8.freeserve.co.uk
