Shane Byrne received an apology from old rival Ryuichi Kiyonari after a collision at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

The pair were battling for victory in the second race at Oulton Park when Kiyonari clipped Byrne's back wheel and sent them crashing out with two laps to go.

Byrne's PBM Kawasaki team-mate Stuart Easton took advantage to win his first British Superbike race since 2010.

Sittingbourne rider Byrne said: "I have an awful lot of respect and admiration for Kiyo as a rider and I know full well that would have been the last thing he intended.

"He has been around and said sorry. It is a bit frustrating as I felt I had that win in the bag but at the same time I am over the moon for the PBM team and Stuart as I was cheering him from the wall at Hizzys."

BMW rider Kiyonari added: "All I can say is that I am sorry to Shakey, our teams and the fans.

"We would have had more battles and I destroyed that. I went and apologised after the race."

Byrne finished third in race one, behind Tommy Bridewell and Josh Brookes.

He's dropped to second place after three rounds of the championship, eight points behind James Ellison.
