Mallory Park challenge for superbiker Byrne
18:14, 26 June 2008
Shane Byrne heads for Leicester's short but demanding 1.41 mile Mallory Park circuit for this weekend's sixth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Byrne, of the Airwaves Ducati team, leads the championship with 235 points and enjoyed a win and third place last year at Mallory Park.
But he expressed mixed feelings about the approaching weekend.
The Sittingbourne rider said: "I like the people at Mallory Park and the fans always create a good atmosphere because they can get close to the track. However, it is not a circuit that's on my list of favourites.
"In terms of riding I prefer fast flowing circuits which Mallory Park isn't, though I understand they have made some improvements. Hopefully that will make it more interesting this year."
Ashford's Leon Camier, who secured his debut BSB win at Snetterton and is now second in the championship behind Byrne, is confident of producing a strong performance.
He said: "I am still coming down from my high of winning at Snetteron. It is such a great feeling having a first win under my belt, especially as I had to work hard for it."
