It was a hit and miss weekend for Shane 'Shakey' Byrne at Thruxton.
The Sittingbourne rider won race one but was robbed of a chance to complete the double after experiencing a mechanical issue.
Byrne’s Ducati suffered a broken gear linkage and that allowed Michael Laverty to take advantage and claim the win.
Laverty had finished second to pole-sitter Byrne in a restarted opening race.
Championship leader Byrne made a great start off the line and remained at the front of the field until the race was red flagged following Stuart Easton’s crash.
Laverty snatched the lead on the restart but within two laps Byrne was back infront and he claimed the win with a three-second cushion.
In race two Byrne was passed by both Laverty and Jason O’Halloran and was forced to retire due to a technical issue with the bike.
Byrne left Thurxton holding a 15 point lead at the top of the rider standings ahead of Kawasaki rider Leon Haslam
Brands Hatch stages the next round of the championship on August 7.
