Nick Davis says his Sittingbourne side can go far this season
00:00, 06 September 2017
Sittingbourne believe they are good enough to stay near the top of Bostik South.
Brickies are second in the table after an unbeaten start.
They’ve won three and drawn two of their five matches and on Sunday go to Dartford’s Princes Park ground to face Thamesmead.
Manager Nick Davis appreciates it’s early days for his unfancied side but the potential is there.
Davis said: “It’s enjoyable being at the top. It’s only five games and we know it can quickly go the other way but you’d rather be up there than not.
“Let’s look where we are after 15 games but the players believe in themselves.
“We were outstanding against Whyteleafe on Saturday and that’s the level we need to be at week in, week out. We need seven or eight to be eight or nine out of 10 every week – that’s what wins you matches.
“You need that level of consistency and if we continue that, then there’s no reason why we can’t be competing.
“It’s a long season but I couldn’t ask for any more at the moment. There’s a buzz around the club.”
The game against Thamesmead has been switched to Sunday as landlords Dartford are at home on Saturday.
It makes no difference availability-wise for what will be a difficult match.
Davis, who could welcome back Laurence Ball from a rib injury, said: “Thamesmead are a big side, strong and experienced.
“We’ve not played a side like them yet so it’ll be interesting to see how we deal with it.”
Sittingbourne are away again on Tuesday when they visit Faversham for a league game.
