Matt Wyatt has defended his record at Sittingbourne after he was branded clueless on the club’s forum.

The joint-manager was criticised after Brickies’ 3-0 home defeat by Folkestone last weekend.

One fan said he couldn’t understand why Wyatt was in charge. He claimed he was tactically clueless and questioned his team selection and signings.

Wyatt and Nick Davis took over after Jim and Danny Ward lost five of Bourne’s opening six Ryman League, Division 1 South games. They steered the club out of the relegation zone, reached the third qualifying round of the FA Cup and ended a run of 16 games without an away win, stretching back to January.

Wyatt said: “It’s disappointing to hear what was written but you have to be thick-skinned in management. Me and Nick are in this together, so I don’t know why it’s all about me.

“I never had a problem with Jim and Danny but the fact is they’d lost five of the first six games. Of our 14 league games, me and Nick have won six, lost six and drawn two. We also took the club further in the FA Cup than they’d been in 17 years.”

After Tuesday night's home game against Hythe was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Bourne visit fellow strugglers Three Bridges on Saturday.
