Straight-talking Matt Wyatt has quit as Sittingbourne manager after disagreements with the club committee.

He leaves with Brickies fourth in Ryman League Division 1 South and boasting the best away record of six wins from eight games.

Assistant manager Barry Crimmen has been named caretaker boss and will be in charge when Sittingbourne play South Park at Woodstock on Saturday (3pm).

Wyatt resigned a week ago but stayed on for wins over Whitstable and Walton & Hersham before taking charge for the final time when Brickies lost 1-0 to Faversham in the first round of the League Cup last night (Tuesday).

He said: “I have a few regrets because I've worked tirelessly to produce a competitive team and it’s sad to be leaving.

“I’m hurting badly. At this this stage, I don’t even know if I want to be involved in football again.

“I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve upset a few people on the committee with my straight-talking but we live in a democratic society and I speak as I find. I give my opinions but it’s never personal.

“We had differences in opinion on how the club should be run."

Brickies secretary John Pitts felt Brickies had no choice but to accept Wyatt’s resignation despite the club’s flying start to the season.

Pitts said: “We were very pleased with the job Matt did on the pitch but there were irreconcilable differences between him and the committee.

“Matt has said things about the budget and the pitch and has managed to fall out with every committee member at one point or another during his time with us."
