Matt Wyatt has no idea how his young Sittingbourne team will fare next season.

An inexperienced squad will report for pre-season training at Woodstock on Saturday.

Joint-bosses Wyatt and Nick Davis are confident they have signed talented players, but how they will cope with Ryman League football remains to be seen.

Wyatt said: “We have a few experienced players in Nick, Jono Richardson and Hicham Akhazzan, but the rest will be hungry, young lads between 17 and 23.

“We’re highly delighted with the players we’ve brought in but we just don’t know how they will do.

“It will be sink or swim. We’ll either be the surprise package or it could go the other way and we’ll struggle."

Sixty-one players attended open trials at Sittingbourne at the weekend, with several invited back for training. It’s Wyatt’s first pre-season as a manager and he believes it’s a crucial time of year.

He said: “If you rest on your laurels during the close season you’re going to miss out on players but I learned quickly the hard work really starts in pre-season. That’s when you get your players fit and work on patterns of play, so everyone knows what you want."
