A mum on a mission to clear a path of dog mess scooped up a shocking 187 piles of poop.

Hannah Lampbell's strolls on a tree lined path from St Michaels to Tenterden, together with her two young children, were being spoiled by multiple mounds of dog mess.

The 29-year-old said: "The path is really lovely but the poo made it disgusting. I was worried about my daughter running around alongside the buggy."

The experienced veterinary nurse, who previously worked at Barrow Hill vets in Ashford, before becoming a photographer, went on a one woman crusade, collecting 187 bags of poo in a two-hour clean-up operation earlier this month.

But her work did not finish there as she has also fashioned homemade poo bag dispensers from upside down empty plastic bottles and attached them to lampposts on the path.

The makeshift dispensers bear the message: "Help yourself to a poo bag! Forgot your bags? Don't worry it happens to us all. Please help keep the footpath clean and pick up after your dog."

Hannah's efforts come as the KM Group, which includes KentOnline, kmfm and our sister newspapers, launched the Keep Kent Clean campaign this week.

The owner of a five-year-old Boston Terrier, called Annie, went on: "It's just lazy not picking your dog's poo up. If you are a dog owner it's your responsibility to take poo bags out with you and clear up the mess."

The mum of five-year-old Isabelle and Edward, five months added: "People need to make an effort to clean up after their dogs. They should have more respect for others and take pride in where they live."

Hannah, who was inundated by messages of support after complaining about the mess on social media, laid the blame for the fouling on dog owners and said the town council were not at fault.

"There are three dog bins along the route that are there to be used," she said.

Hannah has lived in Tenterden most of her life and moved to Grange Road, St Michaels, where the path starts, about one year ago.

She said: "I've been using the path for about a year and the mess was just getting worse, especially over the last few months. I decided I had to do something about it."
