Phone mast plan for listed building
00:00, 12 October 2006
THE proposed site of a controversial mobile phone mast in Tenterden has been moved to the town hall.
Orange has suggested that the listed building would make an ideal site for their antenna, a 12m version of which was previously proposed for a grass verge between Oaks Road and East Cross.
The issue will be discussed by the council on Monday (October 16).
Last month Orange had re-thought its original proposal, partly based on the reaction of some concerned residents, among them Jill Kirk, town councillor and infants’ school governor.
Jacques Sibanda, spokesman for Orange, said: “We have identified the town hall as a possible site and have approached the town council about it. The reason why is because sometimes we use a flagpole design of a discreet style. The antennas would be encased in the body of the flagpole.”
Orange lose their mast from the top of Woolworths when the lease expires in September next year.
