A 93-year-old woman has died in hospital after a serious crash in Tenterden.
Three people were left trapped in an overturned car on a country road and had to be cut free by firefighters.
The vehicle ended up on its roof after hitting a power telegraph pole in Cranbrook Road, Tenterden yesterday afternoon.
The air ambulance and the ambulance service's Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were called shortly before 2.30pm
The 93-year-old woman was taken to King's College Hospital in London with life threatening injuries, and today (Thursday) police confirmed she had died.
The driver is believed to have been a man in his 70s and was in the car with another passenger, a woman in her 80s.
They both suffered minor injuries and were initially treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken as a matter of priority to the William Harvey Hospital.
Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to help release the three casualties who were trapped in the car.
Police closed the rural road in both directions following what was described as a "severe" accident by Kent Traffic Information.
Cranbrook Road near Tenterden was shut between the A28 at Rolvenden Road up to Millpond Lane following the crash.
It is believed the crash happened around 2.30pm and the road didn't re-open until late on Wednesday evening as investigations into the cause and the clear-up operation continued.
Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out enquiries as a result of the incident and are keen to hear from witnesses.
In particular, they are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the silver Peugeot in the moments before the collision.
