A popular festival is set to return to Tenterden next summer, it has been announced.

Tentertainment is back on the cards after being called off due to a fall-out between organisers and Tenterden Town Council (TCC).

The last festival - which attracted 10,000 visitors - was held in 2017.

It is not yet known if it will take place on Tenterden recreation ground, as organisers were previously looking to seek alternative venues to stage the event.

Cllr Sue Ferguson said: "We're delighted that Tentertainment is returning.

"The more festivals the merrier, every festival benefits the community.

"The Spirit of Tenterden event was completely different and was a great community success which everybody enjoyed."

The 11th festival was hit with last-minute restrictions ahead of its staging in the first week of July when TTC asked for the main recreation ground stage to be relocated to reduce noise nuisance to residents, while music was also limited to a maximum of 65db and had to finish before 10pm.

Tougher restrictions came amid an undercurrent of resentment about levels of funding and when organisers announced the cancellation of Tentertainment 2018, it led to festival supporters flooding a town hall meeting in protest.

Despite the two sides meeting and Tenterden Town Council promising future support, Tentertainment organisers said they couldn't rely on pledges.

The town council said it had tried to hold out an olive branch and clear the air but the attempt was unsuccessful.

Now, it appears both sides have reached an agreement as organisers announced the return of the annual event on social media.

A spokesman at the town council said: "We are arranging to meet with organisers of the festival very soon.

"Discussions are beginning to take place but it is still in its early stages."

Tentertainment organisers were contacted for comment, but KentOnline did not receive a response.
