At least 122 homes and businesses in Tenterden have been hit by a power cut, and are expected to be left in the dark until late into the night.
Large parts of the town have been without electricity this afternoon, and UK Power Networks has warned the supply may not be fully restored until as late as 11.30pm.
It has been suggested in some areas that a generator may have to be shipped in during the blackout.
Last week in Maidstone, two neighbouring schools took differing approaches to a power cut, with one sending pupils home early, and another keeping them in classes - much to the annoyance of some parents.
