Staff at a town centre shop have been left upset and frustrated after vandals used a wooden stick to smash windows.

Kitchens Unlimited in Ashford Road, off Tenterden High Street, was struck last night shortly before 10m, with four panes of glass broken during the attack.

A piece of wood was left at the scene, thought to be the tool used to break the glass.

Neighbours heard loud smashing but, after investigating, could not find anyone at the store.

Despite the damage, nothing has been reported stolen from the premises.

Steve Baker, who works at Kitchens Unlimited, which has had their showroom in Tenterden for the last 13 years, said they haven’t had any problems before.

Speaking to KentOnline, Mr Baker said: “It’s obviously annoying, and it's another cost for us to replace the windows.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever experienced anything like this.

“I know there have been issues in the high street recently, but being a bit further out, it's not affected us.

“But it's frustrating and upsetting, and it's one of the last things we need right now, but obviously, someone has decided to do this, and now we are left to deal with it.”

Mr Baker is still waiting to hear how much the repairs will cost.

Police are currently appealing for information.

A spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.01pm on Monday, September 16, to a report that a shop window in Ashford Road, Tenterden, had been damaged.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information relating to the incident can contact police on 01843 222289 quoting 16-1506.”
