Johnson shines at fencing championships

Twenterden Swords ace Ralph Johnson claimed gold in the Kent Epee and sabre championships and there were a number of bronze medals for the club after a fine championship.
Johnson overcame teammate Alan Ault in the semi-finals and another bronze went to Dominic Carey after his semi-final defeat to Mallard's Simon Harley.
There was also a brance of bronze medals for Swords in the ladies epee for Helen Easter and Lisa Pelham in a well contested championship.
Helen went down in her semi-final to Marrard's Jane Clayton while Lisa went down in her semi to Kate Neave of the Invicta club.
There was a bronze for Ian Hamilton in the men's sabre and he finished the best veteran in the event while Johnson was top veteran in the men's epee.
Swords' Emily Ryley fought well to reach the semi-finals of the women's sabre where she also fell to Clayton and had to settle for the bronze.
