Burglars have targeted a charity shop that raises money to support deaf and blind children and adults in a busy town centre.

Thieves broke into Sense charity shop in Margate High Street on bank holiday Monday (May 1) and stole a day's takings.

Shop staff arrived at the store on Tuesday (May 2) to find that the property had endured extensive damage from the forced entry and money had been taken.

The incident has been reported to police and staff are now appealing for support from local volunteers and shoppers to help get the store back up and running.

Sense shop manager Mel Fletcher, said: “We’re all very saddened that money has been stolen and so much damage ha been done to our beloved shop.

"The proceeds from the sale of donated stock provide vital funds that enable Sense to support deafblind people, people with sensory impairments or complex needs.
