Armed officers cordoned off 300 yard-long stretch of residential road after reports of a gun being held in one of the houses.
Police were called to Athelstan Road, Margate, at around 9pm on Friday.
Residents reported seeing a large police presence blocking the street at the junction with Ethelbert Terrace and at the junction with Northdown Road.
Images show the police blocking both ends of the road with several police cars. Residents also reported seeing armed officers in the area.
Police say they were called after reports of a firearm at an address in Athelstan Road. Officers then completed a full search of the area after setting up the cordon.
They say no gun was found during the incident and no arrests have been made, but say inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
