Stunning art for auction in aid of a young boy with an incurable disease can be viewed from today in Ramsgate.

Christina Crittenden, from the town, has organised the auction on Friday at the York Street Gallery for the Caring For Connor Campaign.

The campaign is backed by family and friends of Connor Olsen, four, from Westgate, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Mrs Crittenden, Connor’s aunt, has been organising the auction, which boasts 59 lots from artists in Thanet and beyond.

Pride of place goes to Connor’s Masterpiece, lot number 15, a colourful and lively picture created by the St Crispin’s Infant School pupil and professionally framed by Jody Anderson Ramsgate’s Blue Swift Gallery and Framing.

The auctions also includes mosaics, illustrated signed books, pottery, mosaics, drawings, jewellery, and a chocolate house.

Bids are already coming in. Viewing is possible from this afternoon (Wednesday) and tomorrow and Friday, from 10am to 4pm. The auction is at 7pm. Entry to the sale is strictly limited to those who buy catalogues.

Mrs Crittenden wants to thanks all those who have donated to the auction and Mike and Lizzie Samson from the gallery.

Connor was diagnosed with DMD, a rare muscle wasting disease, in March 2013. There is no known cure for his condition, but his family want to make sure there is funding to ensure Connor has everything he needs to fight the progressive disease.

Connor’s parents Georgina and Wayne have requested that anyone who is connected with or meets Connor should avoid mentioning his illness.

His mum said: “Connor doesn’t know about DMD but has recently got a little wheelchair with one-off personalised Spiderman wheels, made by Business Images on Pysons Road Industrial Estate. He says he has this because ‘his legs get too tired’.”

A pancake race will take place in Westgate on Tuesday for Connor’s cause. Angelo’s in Station Road is making the pancakes, registration is at 9.45am and the first race is at 10.15am.
