Attempted burglary suspect caught on camera
00:00, 19 April 2002
A MAN has been praised for his quick thinking action when he spotted what he believed was an attempted burglary.
The retired man took photographs of a man acting suspiciously at Sea Road, Westgate, near Margateduring the evening of Tuesday, April 9, followed a van and took film of the vehicle, had them processed in a one-hour photo-shop and handed the evidence to police.
Det Insp Jon Holl said: “This man acted with terrific community spirit. He took it upon himself to do everything possible to identify a possible criminal and even followed at a safe distance. At no time did he place himself in any danger, which is critical if people do see any crime being committed. His evidence was extremely useful to officers.”
The man, who is not being identified by police, is to receive a letter of thanks from the area commander, Supt Penny Martin.
