Body found in sea between Ramsgate and Dumpton Bay
12:00, 13 September 2013
Mystery surrounds the body of a man recovered from the sea off Ramsgate this morning.
A Ramsgate lifeboat crew recovered the body at around 7.30am after the coastguard was alerted by someone on a boat.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "Initial inquiries would suggest he is not British. There is nothing to suggest this is a suspicious death.
"It is unexplained and enquiries are under way to establish his identity.”
Early indications suggest he had been in the water for a few days, possibly up to a week.
Officers are liaising with their European counterparts to see if they know of any missing fisherman, or any other foreign national reported as missing.
It is understood the body was found about half a mile out to sea, between Ramsgate and Dumpton Bay.
