Lost boys, pirates, fairies, Indians and a crocodile brought Neverland to Newington Community Primary school for World Book Day.
JM Barrie’s Peter Pan inspired pupils and staff to dressed as characters from the classic children’s story, including Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Capt Hook, Smee, Tiger Lily, Crocodile, Wendy and her brothers.
Head teacher Cliff Stokes said: “Literacy is a daily part of our curriculum but on World Book Day we come together as a school with a central theme.”
He said children were encouraged to immerse themselves in the tale by dressing up and focusing on reading for pleasure.
A visiting theatre group presented a short stage version of the show and pupils used their writing skills for follow up work.
Parents were also invited into the school to read with their children as part of a series of activities where families work with pupils on a range of topics, including English, maths and science.
