Hundreds of children gathered in their school playground to celebrate the opening of three new classrooms.

The ribbon was cut by Minster Primary School's chairman of governors George Box yesterday afternoon.

The classrooms, costing £700,000, have been named the Box Annex in his honour following a vote by children and staff after his hard work to get funding for new buildings at the school.

These include a new kitchen and permanent buildings to replace portable classrooms which had been in place for decades.

Building the new classrooms was made possible by Minster Parish Council releasing land it had previously rented from Kent County Council.

Head teacher Wendy Stone said: “The children are delighted with their new accommodation and it will really enable the school to continue to provide the high-quality education the children so richly deserve.”
