A Ramsgate schoolboy who keeps a close eye on his best friend who has diabetes has received a very special Christmas present.

Archie Thompson, 7, helps to look after David Stevens when he is at school to make sure his blood sugar levels don't make him become poorly.

He even misses break times to stay with David if he is unable to go outside and is the latest person to be recognised by kmfm's Make Someone's Christmas.

David's mum Emma nominated Archie for a special Christmas gift, she said: "My son has type 1 diabetes and gets poorly with his blood sugars quite a bit, Archie is his best mate.

"At school Archie keeps an eye on him so if he starts to get poorly he can tell the teacher fast, he keeps an eye on him the whole day and sometimes David's blood sugars are too high for him to go out to play or in for lunch and Archie will stay by his side even if it means missing playtime or having to go into lunch late.

"He is such a great friend David would be lost without him.

"Archie doesn't have lots and even if he hasn't got the up to date computer, games or trainers he is always grateful for what he does have.

"He melts my heart the way he is so caring towards my son that I think he should have a treat. It wouldn't matter what the treat was as he would be grateful for anything."

Yesterday, a mum who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer was given Merlin passes so she can take her children on some amazing days out when she is feeling better.

Nikki Moore from Kings Hill was the third person to receive a gift after her friend told us how she is donating a kidney to a poorly neighbour.

She is being sent for an overnight spa escape to help her on her way to a full recovery following the operation.

On Tuesday, budding author Alice Wightman from Canterbury was told she would be getting a computer and printer as a thank you for helping to look after her older sister, who suffered a brain injury after a car crash, and the rest of her family.

Young carer Belle Henderson from Faversham received the first surprise call after being nominated by her mum and will be going on a trip to Legoland.
