Drinkers at Britain’s smallest micropub are helping to fund vital research after their friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The Four Candles in Broadstairs is donating the proceeds from the first cask of ale to be brewed at the pub.

Landlord Mike Beaumont is donating the £250 raised in tribute to customer and former colleague Paul Taylor, who is living with a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) brain tumour.

The money will go to Brain Tumour Research - a charity which aims to raise £7m every year.

Mr Taylor, 56, of Pearsons Way, was initially diagnosed with migraines and the tumour was discovered after an MRI scan.

He underwent surgery to debulk the tumour two years ago and now awaits the results of scans taken every three months with his wife Louise. and their children Madeleine, 16, and Nathan, 14.

He said: “Mike and I are former journalists who worked together on newspapers in Kent.

“I have had great support from friends and the community since I was diagnosed in 2012 and it’s great to think that people have been raising a pint and helping this great cause.”

Formerly a hardware store, the Four Candles is a one room public house. Its first ever brew is AFT - a 4.5% ale.

Mr Beaumont said: “It’s easy to drink with a slightly bitter edge.”
