Libertines frontman Carl Barât is co-launching a new cafe in Kent this week.

The Love Cafe in Marine Gardens, Margate, promises "great British seaside food with a modern and playful twist".

The 43-year-old musician is working with his partner Edie Langley, restaurateur Gizzi Erskine and music manager Ronnie Traynor.

Inspired by the classic greasy spoon, the Love Cafe will source local produce and serve up cocktails.

Gizzi Erskine posted on social media about the project ahead of its launch on Thursday.

"We’re all investing our own money in this," she wrote. "Which is notably dumb, but we want to make an honest representation of what we see modern British café culture being.

"There will be so many memories for most of us where going to the British seaside and eating in old school cafés and greasy spoons were at the crux of the community.

"We promise to eek out all the best bits and see how things have developed with trade, multiculturalism, social issues, technology, music, local growing and produce."

The Libertines launched a boutique hotel on the Kent coast last year.

The Albion Rooms Residence - a seven-room hotel featuring a restaurant, cafe, bars and recording studio - is based on Margate seafront.

Singer Peter Doherty previously described it as “a fine Arcadian bolthole, a perfect place for prophets new inspired, to recline, write, record, with rejoicing and knees up a plenty”.
