Margate Carnival 2023 welcomes hundreds of people to watch parade along Marine Parade

Hundreds flocked to the seafront in Margate for the town’s annual parade and carnival which dates back 120 years.

The pavements along Marine Parade for the Margate Carnival and parade were packed for the festivities.

Princesses, pageant queens, football teams and Pikachu were all part of the procession which started at Palm Bay.

Local businesses and community groups all had a role, with floats, dancing and street food stands.

Speaking afterwards organisers released a statement on Facebook which said: “Thanks to everyone who was in the Carnival or came to watch. It was a great day.”

Music made up much of the parade, with a steel band and a brass band.

Blue and yellow outfits were worn by some in support of Ukraine, and Windrush-inspired get-ups were also seen.

Alongside the main event, the Turner Contemporary ran workshops, and event space Silvers hosted an after-party.
