Celebrities have delighted youngsters at a Kent nursery by recording special lockdown messages.

Comedian and children's author David Walliams is the latest famous face to posting a video for Millmead Children's Centre in Margate.

Catering for dozens of children across the town, the children's centre comprises Meadow Nursery, which cares for little ones aged two to five. It also has an outreach team that provides support for families in the community; along with a midwife, and speech therapist.

Meadow Nursery administrator Jason Brookman said: "We're a very busy children's centre. We're still open for some children of key workers.

"But because we haven't been able to have the normal children's centre running over the past couple of months, we've been using our Facebook pages to provide information, and bring some happiness and interaction.

"Parents and children like a familiar face, so I contacted quite a few different celebrities and asked if they could provide just a little video we could put on our Facebook page, just to say hello."

Matt Lucas also sent in a video

To his delight, comedians David Walliams and Matt Lucas responded with videos, along with DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles.

"It's really sweet that they've done it out of kindness," said Mr Brookman. "I know it's a tough time for everybody at the moment, so for them to do this has been so nice.

"There's nothing else attached to it - it's purely just as a friendly little gesture.

"Lots of the children read David Walliams' books, and families around here watch Britain's Got Talent as well. Matt Lucas also has his potato song at the moment, which the children are loving."

In David Walliams' video, he says: "A big hello to everyone a Millmead Children's Centre in Margate.

"I'm David Walliams - Britain's Got Talent judge? Little Britain? Children's author? Oh well. Anyway... I'm David Walliams, and I just wanted to send you all my best wishes and I hope you're all staying safe. Take care."

In a video recorded by Walliams' Little Britain co-star Matt Lucas, he introduces the potato from his now-viral Baked Potato Song, with which he is raising funds to help provide NHS workers with hot meals.

Meanwhile, Nick Knowles congratulates staff on their "great work" in continuing to support Margate families during the lockdown.
