The cast of a new comedy series who spent last summer filming in a Kent seaside destination have called the town “magic” and “unique”.
Sky’s new show Dreamland, based around a group of sisters and their other female family members, was filmed in Margate and is set in the town, with various tourist locations featured on screen.
In a new video, cast members such as Smile singer Lily Allen – who plays Mel in the show – have described their time on the Kent coast.
Pop sensation Allen said: “I’ve definitely experienced the seaside summer LOLs.”
Doctor Who actress Freema Agyeman, who plays Trish, added: “I actually prefer a pebble beach if I’m honest!
“But no, Margate’s lovely.”
Gabby Best, who plays, Clare said: “It’s been quite magic.
“It’s a fascinating place and every location has a very specific charm.”
Actress Frances Barber recalled: “It’s so nice to be out of London and be by the seaside.
“It wasn’t much fun filming on the hottest day ever in the United Kingdom - that was quite a sticky day.”
Benidorm actress Sheila Reed added: “Well unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to actually dip in the sea - which would have been glorious - but I’m always happy when I’m by the seaside.”
Aimee-Ffion Edwards, who also stars in the drama, said: “This is my first time in Margate actually and it’s pretty unique.
“People are so proud of being from Margate.”
Sky TV shared the video to Twitter with the caption: “Filming Dreamland in Margate was a vibe.”
Dreamland is a comedy-drama about secrets, lies, loves and aspirations within a family of four sisters.
During filming last summer, eagle-eyed fans spotted 37-year-old Allen alongside husband David Harbour enjoying the town's sunny weather.
Harbour, who is best known for playing Jim Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things, was also seen at Margate Escape Rooms.
The series aired on April 6 and is Allen's first leading role in a big-budget production.
Also starring is James Bond actress Samantha Bond, who played Miss Moneypenny in the Pierce Brosnan era.
