A small dog has been seriously hurt in the arms of its owner during a terrifying attack by a large black dog on a Ramsgate recreation ground.
The woman holding the bichon frise/shih tzu-toy type dog was also bitten in Newington Road.
Kent Police are today appealing for witnesses and information to the attack, between 9 and 9.15am on Monday.
Spokesman Jon Green said: "A large black dog approached and attacked the smaller dog, which was being held in its owner's arms.
"The bichon/shih tzu sustained substantial injuries and the owner was also bitten on her arm."
The black dog's owner had run over and tried to pull the dogs apart. He was bitten on his left hand, causing it to bleed.
Officers want to trace the owner of the black dog, described as looking "like a black Labrador, but with long legs". It is thought possibly to be a cross.
The owner is described as a white man in his late 30s, about 5ft 5in and chubby. He had been wearing a hat and a red puffa-style jacket.
Anyone with information, or who can the identity of the owner, is asked to phone DCLee Goodey on 101, quoting crime reference ZY/6993/14.
