Dreamland has stopped free park entry, in favour of a £5 fee.

From Friday, March 30, anyone wanting to enter the park will be charged £5 for a so-called Day Dreamer ticket - which can be redeemed against one ride or a daily food and drink offering.

A pay-to-ride and wristband system will still be in force for those wanting to go on more than one ride.

But Dreamland's decision has been met with anger by locals, with some saying they will no longer use the park.

Carol Lawrence says she finds it "disgusting" and will not be taking her grandchildren there again.

She said: "Disgusting - so if I want to take my grandchildren I'd have to pay £5 for myself even though I'm unable to go on any rides.

"If that's the case I won't be taking my grandchildren. Bye Dreamland.

"I find it sad they're going to charge as there will be so many children losing out."

Dreamland has defended its decision, saying new rides will be introduced and there has been significant investment in the park.

A Dreamland spokesman said: "We're committed to providing an exceptional experience that not only brings generations together, but that people will want to return again and again.

"As part of this commitment, we have invested a significant amount into the amusement park and seafront properties, which is enabling us to not only improve the look and feel of the park, but also support the regeneration of Margate.

"Not only this but we are introducing several exciting new rides to the line-up for summer and will be delivering additional content and activities throughout the season as well as improving our food and drinks offering.

"As a reflection of this investment and to ensure we continue to deliver a great experience for guests, we have introduced a small fee to enter the park, which can be redeemed on a ride or against the daily food and beverage offering."

"Those wishing to take advantage of unlimited rides will still be able to purchase a wristband to ride all day."If at any time a guest with a Day Dreamer ticket wishes to upgrade to use all of the rides, then, if not already redeemed, the Day Dreamer can be put towards purchasing a wristband whilst on the park.

"Disabled carers visiting with a paying guest and those under 90cm are free to enter at all times."

While wristband prices change depending on the season, the entry ticket will remain at £5.

The Day Dreamer ticket can be upgraded to use all the rides if not already redeemed, and can also be put towards buying a wristband.

There has been some support, however, from park goers who say it is 'fair'.

Mum Sara Moore said: "I have had two fantastic summers down there and had membership just for my son at £35.

"The evening events were mostly free. It was a great way to spend the evening with friends watching the bands and knowing my son was having fun on the rides.

"So, it will cost me £70 for membership - or £5 a day which I can use on a ride.

"I think it’s fair and you cannot expect a place like Dreamland to continue if it doesn’t make any money."
