When police turned up at a flat in Margate High Street a man threw a clingfilm ball out of the door.

It contained 60 wraps of heroin and 31 wraps of crack cocaine, Canterbury Crown Court was told.

James Copeland, 23, admitted possessing the drugs with intent to supply and was jailed for three years. Rebecca Weeks, a 38-year-old mother of three, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years after admitting allowing her home to be used for the supply of Class A drugs.

Ian Foinette, prosecuting, said that on April 16 an officer saw Copeland throw the clingfilm ball out of the flat, where police found drugs paraphernalia and herbal cannabis, valued at £600-£700.

Andrew Espley, defending Copeland, said Copeland was a drug user and addiction, not greed, which led to the offences. He was in care from the age of five and his mother was a drug user.

Paul Hogben, defending Weeks, said she had involved the police by asking them to visit her home the previous October.

“She assisted them in finding the drugs. This was nothing less than a cry for help.

“She wants to rid herself of drugs and get away from this whole shady world.”

Mr Hogben said Weeks had started detoxification in December.

The court was told that police first went to Weeks’ flat on October 20 where they found £1,000 in cash, along with crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

Both had previous convictions for drug offences.
