One of the original members of chart-topping 1980s band Bucks Fizz has performed his last emotional show with the group - after more than 40 years together.

Mike Nolan, who lives in Broaadstairs, was one of the four-piece that won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with their song Making Your Mind Up.

In recent years he has performed with fellow original members, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, as The Fizz. It followed a bust-up with former member Bobby G over the use of the band’s original name.

But this week he performed his final show with the group after announcing in May he was quitting.

Speaking after the show at Sevenoaks’ The Stag Theatre, he told PA: “It was stressful – not horrible stressful, just a bit of a worry, because we wanted it all to be good.

“t was a great way to for it to end for me. I was sad, but very, very happy as well, it was brilliant.”

When announcing his plans to quit the band earlier this year, he said “It’s for personal reasons.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a long, long time, and I just thought, this is the time to do it."

The group then went on to have a string of top 10 hits with the likes of Land of Make Believe and My Camera Never Lies.

However, the band had a near-death experience in 1984 when their tour bus was involved in an horrific crash with a lorry. Mike suffered terrible head injuries and was left in a coma for three days.

Ever since, he has suffered from memory problems, epilepsy and a loss of vision.

Cheryl and Jay have recruited two new singers to join them on future tours - Matthew Pateman, former lead singer with Bad Boys Inc and Nikk Mager who appeared on Popstars: The Rivals.

But Mike Nolan says he hasn’t ruled out a possible comeback.

He added: “I haven’t just walked away, they know, if I’m needed for something specific where they don’t want the new line-up, they’ll phone up and ask me, and I can either say yes or no.”
