A person has died on a railway line after they were hit by a train.
The casualty was struck on the tracks at Chestfield and Swalecliffe station shortly before midday today.
Train operator Southeastern says the line is closed in both directions between Faversham and Margate.
It adds services between St Pancras and Ramsgate via Faversham, and London Victoria to Ramsgate via Chatham, will be delayed, altered or cancelled.
A transport police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Chestfield and Swalecliffe station at 11.47am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Transport police could not yet confirm the gender of the person.
The lines have since reopened but some delays may remain.
Traffic information provider Inrix says there were traffic delays in Herne Bay Road in both directions near the Old Thanet Way due to the incident but these have since cleared.
