Emergency crews have descended on Westwood Cross Shopping Centre after reports of a burning smell.
Two fire engines were scrambled to the scene in Broadstairs at 1.30pm.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We sent two fire engines to the scene because someone thought they could smell burning, but after a full investigation there was no sign of fire."
An ambulance was also reported to be at the scene, although South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed this was in response to a separate incident.
The service was called at about 2pm to reports of a person though to be suffering from a fit, but the patient did not require further hospital treatment.
