Superfast broadband speeds are set to head to two Thanet towns.
Openreach today announced plans to upgrade the infrastructure in Broadstairs and Ramsgate to the new Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) broadband.
The rollout will take place during the next 12 months with the towns joining 34 others across the UK to benefit from the investment.
Clive Selley, chief executive of Openreach, said: "We’re pressing ahead with our investment and Openreach engineers are now building in communities all over the country, keeping us on track to deliver against the bigger ambitions we set out in May.
"The government wants to see a nationwide full fibre network and we’re keen to lead the way in helping them achieve that.
"I’m convinced that prioritising investment in faster, more reliable and future proof broadband networks will prove to be a no-regrets decision for future generations."
Kent county councillor Mark Dance, cabinet member for economic development, said: "This investment by Openreach is excellent news and a great boost for Kent’s digital connectivity as we seek to provide opportunities for everyone to connect to faster broadband."
Openreach is hoping to install full fibre connections in four million premises by March 2021 and is aiming to reach 15 million homes and businesses in the country by the mid-2020s.
Work will begin in several towns in the coming months including Newcastle, Doncaster, Chelmsford and St Albans with more locations in Scotland prioritised following the Scottish government extending relief rates for new fibre broadband networks.
