The Royal Harbour of Ramsgate 200 Festival has had its official launch – exactly three years to the day before the planned event to celebrate the 200 years since King George IV sailed from Ramsgate to Hanover.

On his return he named the Harbour as "Royal", making it the only Royal Harbour in the UK.

The festival will include the whole town for this very special three-day event.

All activities take place on and around the Royal Harbour and will include a parade from the town centre and a special uniformed parade and drumhead service at the harbour.

There will be a two-hour historical variety show bringing the town's history to life.

There will be heritage displays, visits by historic and modern ships, along with performances from Ramsgate's youth and theatre groups.

Re-enactment groups will display Vikings, Napoleonic, Victorians, Dickensians and the First and Second World Wars, plus vehicles of the time.

There will be representation from many of the voluntary groups and static displays telling the full story of the Royal Harbour and Ramsgate.

It is hoped that this celebration will bring the whole town together.

Organisers have started signing up event makers to make it all happen.
