Ramsgate Festival organisers take legal action after slide no-show

11:23, 18 May 2018

It was set to be the highlight of last summer's Ramsgate Arts Festival, but the 300ft water slide was a no-show at the event.

Now, the Trustees of the charity are bringing civil proceedings against Adam Faulkner, owner and operator of inflatables company Bloon.

Nearly 200 people who had won a ballot to take a ride on the slide were left disappointed on Sunday, July 30 when the suppliers pulled out last minute.

Organisers faced several money woes after the hopes of having the slide went down hill, having paid a 50% deposit (£2,655 inclusive of VAT) - with an agreement to pay the balance on delivery.

The company then failed to deliver on the day, sparking a feud between the two organisations.

A spokesman for the festival said: "The Trustees of charity Ramsgate Arts Festival are bringing civil proceedings against Adam Faulkner, the owner and operator of inflatables company Bloon.

"The charity commissioned the manufacture and operation of a Ramsgate Slide for last year's Ramsgate Festival.

"Despite best efforts of the charity, the manufacturer did not produce the goods and let down the organisations, the Ramsgate Festival and the 5,000-plus people who had entered the free ballot to ride the slide down Ramsgate's iconic seafront.

"The charity is indebted to local firm Kent Criminal Law for their support in this matter."

The suppliers had emailed the festival team as late as 11pm on Sunday, July 29 - the day before the slide event - to say they would not be turning up because the full payment had not been made.

At the time, Adam Faulkner, of the suppliers Bloon, said: "Despite several reminders for payment, Ramsgate Arts Festival failed to clear their final balance of their inflatable slide.

"This is against our terms and conditions of sale for bespoke items and left Bloon no choice but to refuse delivery."
