With a water temperature of just five degrees, and air temperature at zero, Thanet Lifeguard Club braved the sea for their annual winter swim.

Wetsuits cast aside, swimmers wore festive costumes to take the sea at Westbrook bay, Margate, on Sunday, December 17.

Club chairman Neil Morgan said: “Twelve gallant souls ran head long into chilly waters, a few managed twenty metres plus swimming.

“Others were quite happy just to submerge under the water.

“Some who were not so brave came out quickly but after assessing the accomplishment of others, took a deep breath and re-entered and completely submerged themselves.”

After the dip, swimmers changed into warm clothes, and hot drinks and snacks were served in the clubhouse during a medal presentation.

“A big thank you to all members, family, friends and supporters who took part, or just came to enjoy the spectacle.”
