Luckily, nobody was in the property at the time so there were no injuries, however, the fire caused excessive damage to the roof of the building.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue service said: "The emergency control room received a number of calls about smoke coming from a roof in Nash Court Gardens, Margate.

"Three fire engines were sent to the two-storey house and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the property and used hose reels and water from a hydrant to put the fire out.

"Fire crews worked hard to successfully contain the fire in the roof space and the incident was reduced to one fire engine by 9.20pm."

The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
