Firewalkers brave burning coals at Dreamland in Margate to raise money for Pilgrims Hospices

Dozens of brave volunteers discovered they could withstand the heat in Thanet last night as they took a mad dash over hot coals.
The firewalkers darted across the burning embers, raising more than £20,000 Pilgrims Hospices in east Kent.
Supporters braved the cold to cheer on the plucky participants at Margate's Dreamland.
One of those taking on the challenge was director of nursing and care services for Pilgrims Hospices Wendy Hills.
Wendy said: “We hope our daring dash across 800 degree coals will help raise enough to pay for 1,500 hours of specialist nursing care by the end of the week.
"Thank you to all the wonderful firewalkers who have been absolutely amazing.”
Cliff Mann welcomed the crowd for the second of pilgrims fiery challenges this week.
He said: “Every part of your being is going to want to stop you doing what you are doing – you’re going to have to stop that happening.
"Firewalk is a state of mind, you need to be in the right state as it carries with it a certain physiology.”
Pilgrims event organiser Robert Grew said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to see the community coming together, especially on such a cold evening.
"The night couldn’t have taken place without the support of many amazing volunteers behind the scenes helping with registrations and setting up and with some even taking centre stage.
"Our wonderful firewalkers have raised well over £20,000 so far.”
Fire performer Paul Tann entertained firewalkers, spectators and supporters during the event.
He said: “The hospice looked after my Dad when he was in his last days and they were angels.
"They made things bearable during an emotional time and are very special people.
"As well as caring for Dad they looked after us as a family too.
"I went in to see him every day and when I broke down the nurses scooped me up and helped me with their kind and reassuring words. They are beautiful people.”
