A town's final fireworks display will go ahead after additional security arrangements were agreed between police and organisers.

The Broadstairs Summer Fireworks programme has been blighted by uncertainty after a brawl among teenagers broke out at the opening event on July 17.

The incident - in which two teenage girls were arrested - sparked a review and put the remaining events of the summer in doubt.

But the final event of the year on August 21 will go ahead.

The planned event on July 24 had to be cancelled while organisers, police, Thanet District Council and the town council reviewed security arrangements.

The Water Gala display went ahead on July 31 with new arrangements in place.

Volunteers helped increase the marshalling presence and more police were drafted in.

But the displays were put at risk due to the extra cost of patrolling the events.

Helpers raised £1,100 at the Water Gala display to fund the additional cost of policing and security while town businesses also boosted the coffers.

A spokesman for Broadstairs Summer Fireworks said: "We are delighted to confirm that following consultation with Kent Police and review of our upgraded security arrangements for the July 31st display, we will be going ahead with our final display of the summer season

"The same security arrangements will be in place so that everyone can relax and enjoy a fun family evening."

Children's fun fair rides will be in Victoria Gardens from 6pm, live music on the bandstand by Helluvaday from 8pm before an extra special final fireworks display of the year starting at 9.45pm.
