Broadstairs fireworks show cancelled over bad weather

Fireworks fans have been left disappointed after a seafront display planned for tonight has been called off due to bad weather.
Broadstairs Firework Events was set to light up the skies with a display at the Bandstand on Victoria Parade.
But in a post on Facebook, the organisers have announced that the show will not go ahead.
“Sadly we are having to cancel tonight’s bandstand music and firework display as heavy rain is forecasted to arrive from 7.30,” read the post.
Speaking to KentOnline, Simon Abra of the Broadstairs Fireworks Event Volunteers Committee said he was hopeful a show planned for next week will go ahead.
“We’re very disappointed that this can’t go ahead, particularly as it would have been the first one when all the children will be on holiday so they could have come to watch,” said Mr Abra.
“But we have to be guided by the weather forecasts.
“Fingers crossed, that in this unusual summer we’ll have better weather next week and everyone will be able to come out and enjoy a spectacular show.”
Would-be attendees expressed their disappointment with comments below the social media post.
“Such a shame, look forward to the next one,” wrote one Facebook user.
But some residents chose to look on the bright side, with one remarking: “Yaaaay and all the animals and animal owners will be relieved”.
The Broadstairs organisers are encouraging families to turn out on the evening of August 2 for the Water Gala Day Finale, which will feature music by Top Guns and a fireworks display.
